Our History

In 1989 panel beater Andy Hopkins opened the first Gemini bodyshop in the UK town of Stourport-on-Severn.

The Gemini way was to offer their customers the very best customer experience, and achieved this in alignment with building robust insurer partnerships.

Gemini continued to evolve, putting into place the very best of their business journey to date, and in 1994 proudly opened a purpose built 40,000 sq foot bodyshop which at that time was the largest in the UK.

Gemini focused on people, processes and technology, and in 1998 Gemini was the proud recipient of two UK industry awards. Bodyshop of the Year and Management Team of the Year.

From there the platform for success was set.

Gemini started a journey of consolidation. In 1999 Gemini acquired the Tip Top business and over the next 4 years grew to 13 UK facilities.

Gemini continued its growth phase and by 2005 was UK’s largest privately owned bodyshop business before its sale to the Nationwide Group.

In 2006, Gemini commenced operation is Australia.

Leveraging off their learnings in the UK, Gemini gathered a management team that arguably was the most talented in the world.

By 2010, Gemini had 16 sites around Australia and continued to lead the way with consolidation.

By 2015 Gemini had 42 bodyshops with an Australian turnover of $150M. At this point Gemini became publicly listed by merging with the AMA Group Ltd. The new AMA business now boasted 54 facilities and was making a significant impact on the Australian market.

Today, the AMA Group is proudly the largest bodyshop business in Australia with 120 facilities and revenues of+ $500M.
